Dr. Alvear & Dr. Fowlkes

During my researching, I joined some support groups on Facebook for people that also had these very rare conditions. I will explain them how it was explained to me...imagine a garden hose laying in your yard...a big field tractor pulls up and stops right on that hose. the hose is my digestive tract and the tractor tire is the compression from those arteries,(depending which illness MALS, SMAS, NUTCRACKER) the compression does not allow the waste or food to move forward so it can only move back. The compression and blockage is also EXTREMELY painful. Through these support groups, you find out who goes to which doctors and which doctors have more successful surgeries and what type of surgeries they perform because like I said there are a couple ways that SMAS itself can be treated with different surgeries. I found a doctor by the name of Dr. Alvear. He is very highly regarded within the GI medical field, and has been a surgeon for a VERY long time. He is retired, and has since retiring, devoted all of his time to SMA research and discovery, and successful longterm surgery fixes. He came up with a procedure and performed this procedure with 3 different doctors in the USA. It was yielding great results with quick recoveries and patients able to eat again and regain their life back. Dr Fowlkes in Virginia and Dr. Alvear together perfected and named the Alvear-Fowlkes procedure for SMA. I was able to secure a virtual visit with Dr. Fowlkes and had all of my records sent to him. He confirmed yes I have SMA, and it was a very bad case. He told me to get my stuff together and get to Virginia he was going to FIX ME! After months of fighting with insurance, it was all finally approved! The surgery, the hospital, everything. I got a date and was scheduled to have my procedure in February. I was on top of the world thinking I was going to be better and everything was going to go back to normal.....That was not quite the outcome...
